Students co-design learning

Students co-design learning and assessment tasks at North Adelaide Primary

Research shows that positioning students as active participants in the learning process accelerates the learning of both students and teachers. Deputy Principal Rene Wavell explains the student value-add to task design, assessment and moderation in a DECD Collaborative Moderation Resource film clip. Teachers initially found that trying to make judgements about the quality of learning against the achievement standard and assign an A-E grade often led to ā€˜Cā€™ grade assessments. Teachers recognized that the assessment tasks needed to be opened up in order for students to demonstrate higher order thinking and understanding. Students worked with teachers to co-design learning and assessment tasks using TFEL Task Transformation strategies. The collaboration ensured intellectual stretch and engagement in the learning and provided rich evidence for moderation.
